Description
Casa Arcangel Fernandez 1970’s – an extraordinary classical guitar from one of Madrid’s most legendary workshops, with a deep and expressive sound.
Arcangel Fernandez is widely regarded as one of the greatest luthiers in history. Born in 1932, he originally trained as a carpenter before discovering his passion for guitar making. In 1954, he had the rare opportunity to study under the legendary Marcelo Barbero, who was considered the finest guitar maker in Madrid at the time and had apprenticed with Santos Hernández. Both Barbero and Fernández became pivotal figures in the evolution of the modern flamenco and classical guitar, setting new standards in craftsmanship and sound.
Fernández later founded a workshop with Manuel Rodríguez, producing some of the finest guitars of their time. Alongside their own master-built instruments, they also oversaw the production of guitars made by other highly skilled luthiers, ensuring that every instrument bearing their name met the highest standards of quality. In 1959, Marcelo Barbero’s son joined the workshop, and they continued working together for four decades, further cementing their legacy in Spanish guitar making.
This particular guitar, labeled “Casa Arcangel Fernandez,” was built in this renowned workshop according to Arcangel’s exacting specifications. It features a beautifully aged cedar top, paired with rich rosewood back and sides.
