Description

Jose Ramirez 10-string 1968 M.T. Classical Guitar – exceptionally rare 10-string guitar by Jose Ramirez made in 1968 by Mariano Tezanos – a masterpiece with stunning sound

This extraordinary Jose Ramirez 10-string 1968 M.T. Classical Guitar was crafted in the renowned workshop of Jose Ramirez III, whose instruments have been cherished by world-class musicians for over half a century. From Segovia and Sting to Chet Atkins and Christopher Parkening, the Ramirez legacy is synonymous with excellence in guitar-making.
It has been made during the late 60’s. This time is considered as the golden age of Ramirez guitars. Mariano Tezanos (M.T.) was the builder of this guitar. In the same year Tezanos made the iconic guitar that Segovia owned and played.

The 10-string guitar, popularized by virtuosos like Narciso Yepes, Vincenzo Macaluso, and Göran Söllscher, offers unparalleled versatility. It opens up a world of possibilities for repertoire that extends beyond the traditional range of a six-string guitar.

This Jose Ramirez 10-string 1968 M.T. Classical Guitar is particularly well-suited for baroque lute music, including works by Bach and Weiss. On a standard guitar, players often need to transpose bass notes, disrupting the original flow intended by the composer. The extended range of the 10-string guitar eliminates this issue, preserving the integrity of the music. Additionally, it enables stunning renditions of larger works originally written for piano or orchestral arrangements.

The hallmark of this Ramirez guitar is its rich, warm tone imbued with a mysterious and evocative character that defines the Ramirez sound. The dynamic range is impressive, delivering a powerful, cathedral-like resonance with every note. Each tone is intensely focused, with harmonics that create an almost ethereal echo effect, enveloping the player and audience alike. Whether experienced from the playing position or at a distance, the sound has an undeniable presence and depth.

Constructed with the meticulous attention to detail for which Ramirez is celebrated, this guitar is a joy to play. Its setup is impeccable, ensuring effortless playability for both concert performers and collectors.
