Description

Josef Obrecht 1925 Vienna Model – fine classical guitar from Vienna with an impressive sound.

Josef Obrecht is one of the great names in Viennese guitar making. He was the leading guitar maker who successfully transported the style of Viennese guitars into the 20th century.
His style and magnificent construction can be traced back to the great master of Viennese guitar making Johann Georg Stauffer. Ignaz Johann Bucher was an apprentice of Stauffer. Ludwig Reisinger learned from Bucher, who in turn was Josef Obrecht’s teacher.

Josef Obrecht built almost exclusively guitars and continuously refined his style. His Vienna models are outstanding and are comparable in quality to the guitars of Hermann Hauser and Richard Jacob Weissgerber.

The guitar has a top made of German spruce, back and sides are made of maple. The scale length is 645 mm and the nut width 43 mm. The original shellac finish is in good condition with some signs of use and wear. However, the guitar is in very good condition and has only one small repaired crack.

The sound is loud, powerful and with a great dynamic range – the well-shaped body produces a sublime, almost majestic tone.
The guitar has a lot of clarity, but at the same time an incredible tonal flexibility. It offers the magic that only an old, masterfully crafted guitar can produce.
The guitar offers a wide range of beautiful timbres in all registers.
