Description

Gerundino Fernandez 1988 Flamenco Guitar – a true masterpiece with authentic Andalusian flamenco sound

This exceptional 1988 Gerundino Fernandez guitar is the real deal—a masterpiece that embodies the legendary flamenco sound for which Gerundino is celebrated.

Gerundino Fernandez (1931–2006) is regarded as one of the greatest flamenco guitar makers of the late 20th century, alongside luminaries such as Arcángel Fernández, Francisco Barba, and Manuel Reyes. His instruments have been favored by many top-tier musicians, including Paco Peña, Paco del Gastor, Tomatito, Juan Martín, and even Eric Clapton.

This spruce blanca exemplifies everything a true flamenco guitar should be. It has an incredibly fast response and a powerful, traditional flamenco voice. The tone is clear, focused, and slightly dark in character—deeply Andalusian in its essence. This is no surprise, as Gerundino lived and built guitars in Almería, the birthplace of Antonio de Torres and the cradle of the modern Spanish guitar.

With its extremely lightweight construction, this guitar offers explosive attack, a dry, woody timbre, and the unmistakable raspy growl that defines great flamenco guitars. Its sound is reminiscent of Paco Peña’s famous blanca Gerundino from the same era—rich, vibrant, and full of life.

Constructed with cypress back and sides and a fine spruce top, it features a 660 mm scale length and a 53 mm nut width, ensuring excellent playability and comfort. The instrument is in extremly nice and original condition.

A phenomenal concert level guitar from the golden era, this Gerundino Fernandez is a treasure for both serious flamenco players and collectors alike.
