Description

Francisco Pau ~1890 – outstanding masterpice of guitarmaking – this guitar is extremly light in weight and has this great old world sound we are searching for.

Francisco Pau came from a family of guitar makers. He took over his father’s workshop and initially learned from him. He also refined his craftsmanship with A. Hernandez Carbonell, an outstanding guitar maker.
Francisco Pau’s guitars are not only visually appealing (as is the case with many guitars from Valencia). They also belong to the top of the guitar making art of that time in terms of sound and are counted among the best master guitars of that time.

This guitar can be dated to around 1890. With a nine brace fan braced spruce top and very finely crafted cypress back and sides, it represents an absolute masterpiece of the time. It is built very similarly to the guitars of Torres, who was still alive at the time.
The materials are of high quality and the workmanship is excellent. It has a big body compared with most other guitars of the time. The scale length is 645 mm and the nut width is 50 mm. The action at the 12th fret is 3.3 mm E and 2.8 mm e. The saddle of the bridge has still enough room left for future adjustments.

The guitar has a very charming woody tone – it has this typical old world sound we like so much. Due to its lightweigt it has an imediate reaction and is very lively.
It has a clear sound, rich overtones, distinctive trebles and beautiful basses. It is quite impressive that such a sonorous and delicate instrument was built more than 130 years ago.
The guitar impresses with a very natural, woody nuance to the sound – very stylish, refined and seductive. In the hands of the player, it feels very expressive and responds to the subtlest changes in touch. The sound is absolutely magical from the lowest to the highest registers.

With this guitar you get the perfect opportunity to authentically revive the great master compositions of the time.
The guitar is in restored and well playable condition!
