Description

Eladio (Gerundino) Fernandez 1989 flamenca negra – beautiful handmade flamenco guitar with loud and deep sound

Eladio Fernandez is the brother and student of the renowned Gerundino Fernandez, one of the most respected names in flamenco guitar making. While Gerundino was establishing his reputation as a master luthier, Eladio was traveling the world as a professional flamenco guitarist, performing on prestigious stages and perfecting his understanding of the instrument from a player’s perspective. This deep connection to the music later influenced his approach to guitar making when he began building guitars alongside his brother.

The workshop of the Fernandez brothers remains in Almería to this day—a city rich in guitar-making tradition and widely recognized as the birthplace of the modern guitar, thanks to the legendary Antonio Torres. Their instruments carry the unmistakable essence of this heritage, blending time-honored craftsmanship with the demands of professional musicians.

Built in 1989, this guitar is a stunning example of Eladio Fernandez’s artistry. It features a finely aged spruce top, paired with beautiful rosewood back and sides, ensuring both tonal complexity and structural stability. The scale length of 660 mm and the nut width of 53 mm provide a comfortable feel, allowing for effortless playability across the entire fingerboard.

The sound is nothing short of extraordinary—deep, resonant, and incredibly balanced. The trebles are crisp, clear, and focused, cutting through with remarkable precision, while the basses are firm, full-bodied, and rich in character. The balance between registers is superb, making it an exceptionally versatile instrument. When played with intensity, it responds with power and growling depth, yet when approached with delicacy, it reveals a beautifully lyrical and melodic side, singing with warmth and expressive nuance.

This is a true high-end flamenco guitar, embodying all the characteristics one would expect from a meticulously crafted master instrument. It delivers the dynamic range, responsiveness, and tonal beauty that professional players seek, making it an outstanding choice for both performance and recording.

The guitar is in great condition and has been well cared for over the years. A professionally repaired crack on the top does not affect its structural integrity or sound quality. It comes with a high-quality hard case for protection and safe transport.

An exceptional instrument with a deep connection to flamenco history, this Eladio Fernandez guitar is a rare find—offering not only superb craftsmanship but also an authentic voice that reflects the soul of Spanish guitar-making tradition.
