Description
Alberto Pantoja Martin 1978 Flamenco Guitar – exceptional negra/blanca flamenco guitar – with amazingly good sound quality!
Born in 1931 in Maron de la Frontera – arguably the heartland of traditional flamenco, Jose Alberto Pantoja Martin learned guitar making in Sevilla in the early 1960’s and set up his own shop as an independent builder in 1967.
Alberto Pantoja Martin has been praised by great masters for his guitars. His guitars were entirely handbuilt and his production was limited to around 12 – 15 guitars a year. In 2013 he stopped building guitars – now his son and grandson follow the family passion and tradition.
This guitar is a rare and special flamenco model, as it has a spruce (top)/rosewood (back)/Cypress (side) construction in the bass range, which gives it very distinctive, clear and powerfull bass tones, while the spruce (top)/cypress (back)/rosewood (sides) construction gives the trebles sharpness and spontaneity.
In 1978 Alberto Pantoja Martin was a true pioneer with such a construction and other well-known guitar makers have later copied this way of building guitars.
This beautiful Alberto Pantoja Martin 1978 flamenco guitar has, in addition to the already described sound characteristics, an outstandingly noble sound. The balance between treble and bass is excellent. It is a very flexible guitar – loud and growling when played hard, but it also sings the sweetest melodies when gently plucked.
A true high-end guitar – it has all the qualities you would expect from a great, masterfully built guitar.
This Alberto Pantoja Martin 1978 flamenco guitar is perfectly set up. The action at the 12th fret is 2.7 mm E and 2.2 mm e. It plays effortlessly all the way down the neck. It has a scale length of 655 mm and a nut width of 52 mm.
The guitar is in good condition, but surely has been played over the years as you can see from the traces of play and use. It comes with the original case. 2 latches are not working and we can provide a new guitar case for the new owner if desired.
