Martin 00-18 1946 Acoustic Guitar – A Remarkable Post-War Vintage Treasure

This Martin 00-18 1946 Acoustic Guitar is one of those exceptional instruments that immediately stand out — crisp, open, and full of that unmistakable vintage voice only decades of aging can produce.

In the period shortly after World War II, Martin produced some of the finest guitars in its long history. These were instruments built with no commercial shortcuts, using thin, resonant tops and first-growth tonewoods of exceptional quality. Fully hand-built, light, responsive, and alive — guitars from the mid-1940s have become highly sought after for exactly these reasons.

This 1946 00-18 reflects everything that made that era special:

  • Beautiful mahogany back and sides

  • A resonant spruce top with great clarity

  • Light construction that delivers explosive projection and rich complexity

This is one of the most articulate and mature mahogany guitars we’ve had in the shop.
Rich, deep, warm — yet with a crisp definition that makes it inspiring for fingerstyle, flatpicking, and everything in between. It has that haunting, vintage Martin character that simply cannot be described… only experienced.

It is truly one of those “to play it is to want to own it” guitars.

This Martin 00-18 1946 Acoustic Guitar is a player’s grade vintage guitar with repairs and modifications, but fully stable and professionally serviced. To reflect this, it is offered at around half the normal market price.

Condition notes include:

  • New bridge

  • New tuners

  • Refinished in the past

  • Several crack repairs – all stable and clean

  • Neck reset professionally done

  • Plays great with low action:

    • 2.4 mm (E-string)

    • 1.7 mm (e-string) at the 12th fret

Despite the work done over the years, the guitar is structurally solid, perfectly playable, and an outstanding musical instrument with a rare tonal quality.

The guitar comes with a newer hard case for safe storage and transport.
