Vicente Tatay Alabau 1900 Classical Guitar - Early Valencian masterpiece based on the guitars of Antonio de Torres

This Vicente Tatay Alabau 1900 classical guitar is an impressive historical instrument from the great tradition of Spanish guitar making in Valencia. Vicente Tatay Alabau was one of the most important guitar makers of his time and played a central role in the development of the Spanish classical guitar at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. His workshop was known for precision craftsmanship, careful selection of materials and a clear, powerful sound. His construction method was based on the guitars of Antonio de Torres.

The original label of the guitar is not dated, but the instrument can be dated very clearly to around 1900 based on the construction, materials and historical sources. This means that this guitar comes from a particularly exciting era of Spanish guitar making, during which the modern classical guitar was finally formed.

The construction of this Vicente Tatay Alabau classical guitar follows the traditional Spanish school. It has a fine spruce top, which ensures a quick response and clarity, and rosewood back and sides, which give the sound depth, warmth and a beautiful tonal range. The scale length is 650 mm, the nut width 50 mm - dimensions that also offer today's players a very familiar and comfortable playing feel.

In terms of sound, this guitar impresses with a balanced, open and surprisingly modern tone. The basses are warm and round, the mids present and the trebles clear and singing. Chords unfold homogeneously, while individual voices remain very well separated from each other. Despite its advanced age, the guitar has a very good string action and excellent playability, making it not only a collector's item but also a real playing instrument.

The condition of this Vicente Tatay Alabau 1900 classical guitar is good and in keeping with its history. It has been expertly restored: existing cracks have been professionally repaired and the shellac polish has been carefully refreshed. All work was carried out with the aim of preserving the original character and historic sound of the guitar. The instrument is structurally sound, ready to play and has been carefully checked by our luthier. The guitar comes with a good guitar case.

This Vicente Tatay Alabau 1900 classical guitar is a wonderful example of early Spanish guitar making from Valencia. It combines historical significance, quality craftsmanship and musical expressiveness in a special way. An ideal choice for lovers of historical instruments, collectors or players looking for an authentic old Spanish guitar with character, history and excellent playability.
