Impressive handmade guitar by Masaru Kohno model 20 from 1976 - beautiful and balanced sound!

Masaru Kohno (1926-1998) is probably Japan's most important guitar maker and, of course, one of the most played, performed and recorded of the 20th century.
Among the top players of Kohno guitars are Julian Bream, Oscar Ghiglia, Sharon Isbin and Shinichi Fukuda.
Although Kohno began making guitars in 1948, it was not until his return to Japan in 1960, after a 6-month trip to Spain (where he was apprenticed to Arcangel Fernandez), that he set up his successful workshop. He made his international debut in 1967 when he was awarded a gold medal at the „Concours International de Quatuor a Cordes et Rencontres Musicales Internationales de Liege“ in Belgium (interestingly, Daniel Friederich was another top winner at this competition).

It has a spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The scale length is 658 mm and the nut width is 52 mm. The condition is excellent and the guitar has been well cared for. There is only one professionally repaired crack on the top.

It has the classic sound from this era: clear, woody and dark. This guitar is something special. Built in the Spanish style, it still has the typical Kohno sound.
First of all, the guitar is enormously powerful and impresses with a long-lasting sustain. The sound quality can be described as mystical with an almost magical appeal. The guitar fills the whole room with the most beautiful tones and impresses with a breathtaking variety of timbres. An absolutely noble instrument at concert level - very finely built for the highest tonal demands.

The guitar is in concert-ready condition with a comfortable setup and easy playability. It comes with a good guitar case.
