This beautiful Martin 000-28 from 1944 is a real dream guitar - very balanced and with a warm and clear vintage tone!
It has all the desirable pre-war features: scalloped bracing, herringbone binding, snow flake fretboard inlays ... one of those „holy grail“ acoustic guitars!
Among the many creations of the venerable manufacturer from Nazareth, there are few guitars that have been as revered and copied as the 000-28.
The 000 shape with fourteen frets from the body, with its very pronounced size and amazing curves, has become the standard alternative for guitarists who do not opt for the dreadnought. Its smaller size makes it a much more comfortable guitar for players who are not as big as a cowboy. The texture is less pronounced in the basses and makes for a more balanced sound. Since its invention in 1933, it has continued to inspire other makers and set the standard for the all-purpose guitar, from Paul Simon's fingerpicking to Eric Clapton's blues.
The pre-war models are of course the most valuable examples ... and this one is a real player of the time. These guitars from the period shortly before and during the Second World War are very popular with collectors.
These guitars combine the best materials, sound-optimized construction and meticulous craftsmanship to create unique dream instruments. The number of guitars built by Martin was very small at the time, so that only very few „Pre War“ Martins are still for sale today.
Apart from a neck reset and signs of wear and tear - which simply proves that this 000-28 has been played a lot - it still has all its original parts.
The bridge has been reglued and there is a small repair on the back. The rest of the defects you see in the pictures are just heavy wear and chipping of the varnish.
This guitar is a very good example of the timeless quality of Martin-built instruments. It has a warm and clear sound, a strong fundamental presence, an amazingly even string balance and the classic Martin focus. It is a wonderful fingerstyle guitar and a great choice for the recording studio.
