A very cool Martin 000-18 from 1952 has just arrived ... when we tuned and played it for the first time, we were overwhelmed by its full and open sound.
In this period just after the war, Martin created wonderful guitars - which are highly sought after today. It was an era when guitars were built without any commercial consideration... they were fine and used the finest tonewoods. They were built entirely by hand in every respect. Beautiful mahogany sides and back and a very nice spruce top - makes this guitar a cannon. The guitars from this period are among the finest that Martin has produced over the years.
This guitar is in very good condition. The top has many war marks, including some filled holes near the pickguard, probably from previous electronics. It has some wear from playing and use. Most of what you see in the pictures are scratches and paint damage that are only superficial. A luthier has sealed some small cracks on the treble side of the top. The rest of the guitar is free of cracks. It has had a neck reset and plays like butter.
This fantastic sounding Martin 000-18 1952 could easily become a fingerpicker's best friend, with a beautiful classic, well-aged tone and responsive body. With plenty of volume, dynamics and singing melody strings, it has a beautifully defined tone that is wonderful for the right fingerstyle player - and certainly opens up well for flatpicking.
This is one of those guitars that you have to play to want to own.
It has a nut width of 43 mm and comes with the original guitar case.
