Manuel Contrera's flamenco master guitar from 1972 - a real revelation. A real masterpiece with a tremendous flamenco sound!
Manuel Contreras was born in Madrid in 1926 and joined the Ramirez workshop as a master guitar maker in 1959. It was Contreras who built the first José Ramirez guitar, which Andrés Segovia bought in 1960. After three years with Ramirez, Manuel Contreras opened his own guitar workshop in the center of Madrid. He soon gained a reputation as one of the best and most innovative guitar makers in Spain.
His achievement in this sense was the development of the „Double Top“ model, which Contreras presented in 1974 after conducting a series of experiments to improve the tone, volume and projection of the instrument. This model was immediately well received in the professional guitar world.
This is a fantastic flamenco guitar built by Manuel Contreras. Contreras has built some great flamenco guitars and this one is no exception.
As it is very light and lively, it is great fun to play and the sound is pure flamenco. It is focused and snappy with an immediate response, although it is also very expressive.
The string action and setup are very comfortable and fast, perfect for flamenco. As is typical for Contreras, the quality of the materials is first class.
The guitar has a few professional repairs and a professional refinish.
A great concert level vintage flamenco at a very affordable price that comes with a hard case.
