Lowden F-9 1980 acoustic guitar - Early Lowden rarity with a powerful sound and exceptional depth

This Lowden F-9 1980 acoustic guitar is an extremely rare and sonically impressive instrument from the early history of George Lowden. It was made in Japan in 1980 (serial number 290) and belongs to the exclusive series of Lowden guitars that were built between 1980 and 1985 in the renowned S. Yairi workshops in Nagoya under the direct supervision of George Lowden. This phase is considered particularly exciting today, as Lowden himself greatly appreciated the exceptional Japanese craftsmanship and worked closely with the luthiers there.

The F-9 model is characterized by its particularly deep body, which is largely responsible for the enormous, voluminous sound. The basses are rich, deep and powerful, while the mids remain clearly defined and the trebles sound warm and balanced. Especially when playing fingerstyle, open chords and dynamic strumming, this guitar develops an impressive fullness of sound that is so much appreciated in early Lowden instruments.

The choice of wood underlines the high-quality character of this guitar. The solid cedar top ensures a quick response and warmth, while the back and sides made of Australian Silkwood (Flindersia brayleyana) lend depth and complexity to the tone. An ebony fingerboard and a rosewood bridge round off the classic choice of materials. Particularly beautiful are the inlaid rosette and the fine ornamental work as well as the elegantly carved Martin-style neck detail on the back of the neck - an exceptional and rare detail.

The Lowden F-9 1980 acoustic guitar has six steel strings, 20 frets and a very pleasant playability, with a low side lay at the 12th fret. The specially shaped bridge with matching wooden bridge pins and the wooden pickguard emphasize the individual character of this instrument. Tusq was used as the nut material, as well as a split Tusq bridge insert, which contributes to good intonation and stability.

The overall condition of the guitar is good. There are two repaired cracks on the guitar top as well as a few quirks and traces of use, which give the instrument its honest vintage character. These points have of course been taken into account in the price. Technically, the guitar is fully ready to play and impresses with its stability and sound quality. It comes with a new, high-quality case.

This Lowden F-9 1980 acoustic guitar is a real rarity for lovers of early Lowden instruments and for players looking for a deep, powerful yet finely resolving sound. An extraordinary piece of guitar history with character, soul and impressive depth of sound.
