Louis Panormo - an incredibly beautiful and rare romantic guitar from 1862, one of his last guitars!
French-born Louis Panormo (1784-1862) and his brothers were the best guitar makers in 19th century England and were among the only guitar makers outside Spain to produce guitars „in the Spanish style“, as the labels on Louis‘ guitars say.
His guitars are said to be closer to the modern Torres guitar than any other luthier of his time, but luthier and scholar Richard Brune has described Panormo's guitars as closer to the inspiration of the pre-Torres luthiers of Cadiz and Malaga.
Louis Panormo was one of the guitar makers recommended by Fernando Sor. Sor visited Panormo's workshop in Bloomsbury during his stay in London to visit Louis‘ older brother Joseph (1767-1837).
This special Louis Panormo guitar from 1862 was Panormo's regular top model with rosewood back and sides. It was built in the Spanish style with seven fan braces.
It has the most beautiful Baker machine heads, which still work perfectly 160 years later. An exceptionally complete and very playable instrument.
It has been restored and some cracks have been glued - everything you would expect from a guitar of this age. Now it presents itself in beautiful condition again.
It has a remarkably full tone. It's impressive how loud this little guitar can be. The tone has a beautiful maturity and presents the most beautiful timbres imaginable. The combination of high quality rosewood and spruce on this guitar is pure magic. This is the perfect guitar for someone who is looking for a beautiful yet different sound.
This guitar is fully playable and plays impressively easily over the entire neck. The neck is straight and the string action is pleasantly low. It has the usual scale length of 630 mm and a nut width of 46 mm.
It is a real pleasure to play this 160-year-old guitar, which represented the pinnacle of concert guitars in its day. This beautiful specimen should continue to make music for centuries to come!
