Julián Gómez Ramírez 1933 Classical Guitar - French guitar making history with Spanish soul
This fine Julián Gómez Ramírez 1933 classical guitar is an exceptional historical instrument and a fascinating testimony to the history of European guitar making in the 20th century. It combines the Spanish guitar-making tradition with the French school in a unique way and is aimed at discerning players and collectors alike.
Julián Gómez Ramírez - A link between Spain and France
Julián Gómez Ramírez was born in Madrid in 1879. He began his training at the age of 13 in Agustín Andrés' atelier before working for José Ramírez I for four years from 1910. In 1914, he moved to Paris and became the first important representative of Spanish guitar making in France.
His fan-braced guitars with typical Spanish construction were very popular, as they had a much more powerful and richer sound than the romantic guitars that had been popular in Paris up to that point. In 1938, Robert Bouchet visited Julián Gómez Ramírez as a customer in his workshop in the Rue Rodier. This encounter led to a close friendship, and Ramírez taught Bouchet the fundamental principles of guitar making - a milestone for French guitar making in the 20th century.
