Excellent guitar from Cadiz by Juan Perfumo from 1846 - he was a famous guitar maker and this guitar sounds fantastic!
Interestingly, this guitar was used as the basis for the entry of the luthier Juan Perfumo in Jose Romanillos‘ famous book „The Vihuela de Mano and The Spanish Guitar“ (see picture).
Juan Perfumo was one of the most influential Andalusian guitar makers in the generation before Torres. Torres based his work on precisely this style of typical Cadiz guitar design (Fernando Sor also preferred this type of guitar). Perfumo opened his workshop in 1839 and was active until 1860. Although he enjoyed an international reputation and his guitars can be found in such far-flung places as Argentina, Finland, England and Japan, only around twelve of his instruments are known to exist today, making this guitar a very rare specimen.
This guitar is light as a feather and perfectly crafted in every detail. It has beautiful ornamentation.
It is an outstanding example of a guitar of high quality craftsmanship and is simply exquisite in its sound quality.
The tones are rich in overtones and yet it retains an almost unbelievable degree of separation and clarity between the individual tones.
Due to its ultra-lightweight construction, the response is direct, with a large amount of tonal modulation and dynamic range. This guitar has tremendous power, which immediately dispels the rumor that old guitars can't be loud.
It has been professionally restored - several cracks in the body have been expertly repaired.
A truly impressive masterpiece. It has a spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The scale length is 620 mm and the nut width is 46 mm.
