Spectacular sounding Guild D-40 from 1967 - very impressive vintage sound!
Guild is one of the major US guitar manufacturers alongside Martin and Gibson. The company was founded in 1952 by Alfred Dronge and George Mann. By 1956, Guild was so successful that they had to move to larger premises in Hoboken, New Jersey. This is where some of today's highly sought-after Guild guitars were built.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Guild supplied many of the famous musicians and became increasingly popular.
From this golden age of Guild comes this great D-40. The D-40 was launched in 1963 along with the D-50. These dreadnoughts were designed for balance and projection to allow the guitars to stand out from a full bluegrass band.
It sounds resonant and punchy, with a full tone and great clarity and definition. It's a very responsive guitar, with a very comfortable string action (had a neck reset) and an excellent feel on the neck.
The guitar has a few repairs, all are solid and there is nothing to worry about.
It comes with an older hard-shell case.
