Gibson Super 400 C 1960 - probably one of the coolest Gibson Super 400’s ever - it sounds and plays like a dream!

The Super 400 was launched in 1934 and was the largest guitar Gibson had ever made. It was a risky move at the time, but the company wanted to defend its reputation as a leading guitar maker and lead the way into the future. It worked, as the Super 400 not only became the standard archtop for aspiring players, but also made Gibson the industry leader in the new era of larger jazz guitars. Over the years, it was further developed and eventually received a cutaway, slight changes to the body and other hardware. During the Second World War, the model was discontinued due to supply shortages, but was reissued in 1949. In the 1950s, the model was repeatedly modified, including the installation of electronics. This particular version is the Super 400C, with cutaway but without electronics. It is a pure acoustic guitar, an archtop wonder, and it is simply to die for.

This Super 400 has the power and tone to cut through the sound of a big band. The sound of this instrument is simply extraordinary: clear, big and deeply resonant, with thunderous volume and a remarkably shimmering, natural reverb in the treble. The guitar plays like butter and simply sounds like a dream.

It is in good condition for its age. It has a repaired crack (almost invisible) on the top. It has marks on the top from a previous pickup. The neck has received a new binding and a refret. Some parts of the neck have an overspray and there has been a repair to the neck foot.
Otherwise, the finish of this guitar is original and the guitar comes with the original case.
