Gibson's L-3 was offered through the early 1920s into the early 1930s, and was the company's most ornate (and most expensive) small-body archtop.
This one dates from 1929 and is in good condition and plays very well with a straight neck and low action.
It has a few old and stable repairs. All in all, it is in very good condition for its age and plays like butter.
This L3 has the typical sound from the old days, which is darker than we would expect. It is quite pure and fundamental, without many overtones, and has excellent balance across the strings. It lends itself very well to chord arrangements and melodic single-note playing through chord progressions and does this best with a controlled medium attack. It's fun to play in a small group, as the unique sound can cut through a mix of larger-bodied guitars and rhythm instruments.
It comes with the original case.
