Gibson L-0 from 1937 in original black finish - it's remarkable to find an 85 year old Gibson with a small body in such good condition!
These guitars were the workhorse of professional musicians during the tight money times of the 1930s.
Features include spruce top; mahogany back, sides and neck; top and back binding; original non-pinned bridge; fire-stripe pick guard shining on the black finish; 14 frets up to the body.
It's pretty hard to argue with an old Gibson. They're just killer guitars. The good guitars - like this one - have that classic Gibson sound, which is characterized by simplicity. Woody, clear and open sounding, you can clearly hear every note you play. This guitar isn't cluttered with sweeping mids, complicated harmonics or sweetened highs. It's a cool, straightforward guitar that reproduces what you put into it, albeit through a woody “old Gibson" filter. There are good reasons why these instruments are as popular and sought after as they are.
This instrument is in pretty good condition considering its age. Of course it has signs of use and wear and several crack repairs on the sides. It has had a neck reset and plays incredibly easily with a low action, straight neck and good frets.
The serial number is hard to read, but we would say it is 38 - C. We have the original case of this guitar, but it is pretty broken. You can decide if you want it in a newer case or keep the old case.
This Gibson L-0 from 1937 is an extremely rare and historically significant guitar.
