Beautiful contraguitar (Schrammel guitar) in the style of a Viennese Stauffer guitar - made around 1950 in Germany!
This type of guitar was invented in Vienna in the middle of the 19th century and quickly became very popular.
Famous guitar makers such as Johan Georg Stauffer, Johann Gottfried Scherzer and Franz Angerer built such instruments.
The contraguitar is therefore ideal for accompanying folk music and Schrammel music. Nowadays it is also used in modern music and jazz.
This beautiful guitar was built in the style of the famous Viennese guitars. There is no label inside this great guitar, which is a shame because we would have loved to know who made this guitar in such a wonderful way.
It has the typical Stauffer headstock and adjustable neck. It has 15 strings. It has a spruce top and maple back and sides. The scale length is 630 mm and the nut width is 48 mm.
The sound is very beautiful, masterful with concert quality. It has a sound with a lot of clarity, but at the same time an incredible tonal flexibility and the magic that only an old, masterfully built guitar can produce.
The guitar has a good response and can be surprisingly loud. At the same time, it retains a wide range of beautiful timbres in all registers.
The condition is very good for its age. It has some old repairs (all stable) and very few signs of play and use. It plays very well with a straight neck and low string action.
