Early Romantic guitar in the style of Lacote from around 1830, made by Dubois (Mirecourt in France) - a beautifully crafted and very good sounding guitar.
This guitar is really something special. It was built in Mirecourt (France) by the luthier Dubois. Dubois is a family of instrument makers. They were already making guitars and violins in the 17th century, and the family tradition continued into the 20th century. This guitar was probably made by Jean Nicolas Dubois and can be dated to around 1830.
This guitar was built from very good materials and with highly professional craftsmanship. It has a fine spruce top and beautiful maple back and sides. The decorations and ornaments on the guitar are extremely magnificent. The nut width is 45 mm and the scale length is 645 mm.
The guitar sounds fantastic and can keep up with the best Lacote instruments. The larger and deeper body gives this guitar a very fat and loud sound.
Nevertheless, the sound is charming and sweet and this guitar is perfect for getting closer to the authentic sound of the music of composers such as Sor, Giuliani, Aguado, Legnani, Diabelli, Carulli, Coste and Legnani, to name but a few!
A dream guitar that produces the most beautiful timbres. It really is a masterfully built instrument and was certainly used by a professional musician for concerts at the time.
The condition is very good for its age. It has been professionally restored and made perfectly playable.
The guitar is easy to play, has a straight neck and a pleasantly low string action.
