A rare opportunity to acquire one of the coveted Santos Hernandez guitars - they are undoubtedly the holy grail of classical guitars!

Santos Hernández was born in Madrid in 1873. He was one of the guitar makers trained by Manuel Ramirez, with whom he began working around 1905 to replace Enrique Garcia.
The famous guitar that Manuel Ramirez gave to Andres Segovia in 1912 was built by Santos Hernández. When Manuel Ramirez died in 1916, Santos continued to work for his widow for some time.
Soon afterwards, Santos Hernández opened his own workshop in Calle de la Aduana in the center of Madrid and began building under his own name. He was known as a reserved and secretive man and never had an apprentice. This is one of the reasons why the name Santos Hernández has become a myth. But it is true that his guitars really do have a unique character: They sound very deep and have a beautiful melancholy note in their tone - something that cannot be found in the instruments of other guitar makers.
How did he do it? What magic made it possible to achieve such a sound? This guitar from 1921 is certainly equipped with these very special qualities.

It has a beautiful spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The scale length is 650 mm and the nut width is 51 mm.

The sound is rich, deep and has an almost „thoughtful“ tonal quality that is supported by a solid, almost confident fundamental in the middle of each note. It also has a nice, loose, traditional feel to the sound. We love how the trebles sing on this guitar and how they combine with the powerful basses to create a wonderful sonic experience. The sound has a nice vintage character with a great sustain.
All in all, a very charming instrument that reflects the essence of this great manufacturer.

The guitar was owned by a professional musician and was very well cared for. It has been very professionally restored and the shellac polish has been nicely refreshed. The tuners are the best fustero (vintage style) tuners we have seen.

It comes with the original case and the certificate of authenticity (linked below - please click on the link).
