Gibson Les Paul Junior model solid body electric guitar (1957), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial number 7-3167, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany body and neck ...
This is a rocked out, but great playing and excellent sounding Gibson Les Paul Junior. A classic 50s Gibson full of character. The top is finished in a bright black and yellow sunburst lacquer that shows heavy signs of play and use. The mahogany neck feels good, slightly flatter and less chunky than other Gibsons from the 50s. The P-90 is very good sounding, the wiring includes the now revered „Bublebee“ tone cap. As the name suggests, the Les Paul Junior was the simplest of Gibson's signature line of the 50s, with a single P-90 pickup at the bridge and a simple bridge/tailpiece.
The Junior was a successful combination of minimalist design and a lack of complexity that was as popular then as it is today. Launched in mid-1954, the model was a success right from the start. A total of 2959 copies were sold in 1957, compared to less than 600 Les Paul Standards. This showed Gibson's management that solidbody electric guitars were the wave of the future, but still more popular in the amateur market than with established professional musicians. Although designed as a student guitar, the Junior rightly became known as one of the most powerful of all straight rock guitars, with fantastic natural overdrive capabilities when paired with the right amplifier. The combination of the solid, thick mahogany body and neck with the single dog-eared P-90 and bridge maximizes tonal response. Many prefer this model over all others for both crunchy rhythm and snappy lead sounds. From Leslie West to Mick Ralphs and Johnny Thunders to Paul Westerberg and Billie Joe Armstrong, Gibson's original 1950s Les Paul Junior has proven itself time and time again as the simplest and most effective rock machine.
The scale length is 22 3/4 inches (578 mm) and the nut width is 1 11/16 inches (43 mm).
This almost 65 year old Junior has been rocked hard and shows all sorts of signs of play and use. It has received a repair on the neck, which is solid. The front of the headstock has been refinished in black, but the logo has been left original. The rest of the finish is also original. The tuners have been replaced with Grovers (the original tuners, without knobs and in poor condition, are included). The bridge is also a newer one - original is in the case.
The electronics and all parts are original except for some wires, which have been replaced. The case is a newer one.
If you're looking for an original 50's Gibson Player guitar - this is the one. Available for a fraction of the price of a collector's item that easily costs over €10000.
