Description

Braun & Hauser Contra guitar 1924 – a very rare and fantastic sounding guitar with a high collector’s value. This guitar was made by Hermann Hauser I in the Braun & Hauser workshop.

Hermann Hauser I, the son of Josef Hauser, occupies an outstanding position worldwide as a German guitar maker. He learned the craft of making musical instruments in his father’s workshop. Herrmann Hauser I took over his father’s instrument workshop, while Josef Hauser continued to run the music publishing company. Hermann Hauser I specialized in lute and guitar making, but also remained faithful to zither making. As part of the guitarist movement in Bavaria, Hermann Hauser I built a large number of different guitars, in particular the Viennese and Munich models in perfection and in all versions. Terz, Prime and the rare Contraguitars by Hermann Hauser I are of the highest quality. The sound of these instruments remains unsurpassed to this day. Based on his special craftsmanship, Hermann Hauser I developed technical, patented innovations in the area of top construction and neck-body joints.
Like Antonio De Torres, Hermann Hauser I influenced many guitar makers of the 20th century. It goes without saying that his guitars were and are played by many virtuosos and world stars.

Why Hauser and Braun?
Around 1900, Josef Hauser (the father of Hermann Hauser I) lost his arm in a road accident and had to sell his workshop to Mr. Steigenberger. Josef “sold” Hermann Hauser I with the business. In the purchase contract, it was agreed that Hermann would work in the new workshop for several years. Mr. Steigenberger had also bought a workshop from Mr. Braun, and so the new workshop was called Braun and Hauser. Hermann was the center of interest and became foreman of the Braun and Hauser company.

The guitar has a German spruce top (which was replaced some years ago), maple back and sides and an ebony fingerboard. The scale length is 630 mm and the nut width is 50 mm.
The guitar is in good condition and has a newer spruce top. It is also equipped with an adjustable neck (Stauffer style).

The sound is loud, powerful and very dynamic – it has a large and deep body, which creates a sublime, almost majestic sound.
The sound is beautiful, masterful with concert quality. It has a lot of clarity, but at the same time an incredible tonal flexibility. It offers the magic that only an old, masterfully built guitar can produce.
The guitar offers a wide range of beautiful timbres in all registers.

It comes with a handmade case.
