Stauffer Style Romantic Guitar ~1820 – This rare antique guitar from around 1820 is a true gem, built in the style of a Viennese Stauffer guitar.
Its distinctive features, such as the smaller sound hole positioned slightly lower on the body and its overall construction, place it firmly in the early Romantic period. After consultation with various experts, the guitar’s year of manufacture is estimated to be approximately 1820.
As was common at the time, there is no maker’s label or inscription, but its craftsmanship and the materials used suggest origins in the Vienna region, southern Germany, or the Markneukirchen area. Built with exceptional skill and fine materials, this instrument was clearly intended for professional use.
The guitar’s understated elegance is captivating. It features no elaborate ornamentation, yet every detail reflects meticulous craftsmanship. The flamed maple used for the back and sides is of the highest quality, beautifully complementing the finely grained spruce top.
