Romantic guitar built by Joseph Charotte-Millot around 1840 – a beautifully crafted and very good sounding guitar.
This romantic guitar is something special. It is from the time around 1840 and was built by the skilled craftsman Joseph Charotte-Millot (1798 – 1849) who was a luthier in Mirecourt (France). Charotte-Millot was a very skilled craftsman building guitars and other stringed instruments on a very high level.
This guitar has a simple apperance, but is built using the best materials.
Beautiful flamend maple and a wonderful spruce top was used for the body.
The scale length is 645 mm and the nut width 45 mm.
The guitar sounds fantastic and can certainly compete with other instruments made by master builders of that time. It has that magical sound that immediately takes you to another time and far away places.
This guitar is built as light as a feather and is perfectly worked out in every detail.
While every note is rich in overtones, it retains an almost unbelievable degree of separation and clarity between voices. Due to its ultra-lightweight construction, the production of sound is immediate, with an ample amount of tonal modulation and dynamic range. This guitar also boasts enormous power, which will immediately put to rest any rumor that old guitars don’t have much sound!
The condition is very good for the age. Slight restorations have been professionally made by Gabriele Lodi. The guitar plays easily, with a straight neck and a pleasantly low action.
