Pedro Maldonado was born in 1929 on Las Parras Street in Loja, Granada. His father was a furniture maker, and Pedro began assisting him in the carpentry shop as a teenager. It wasn’t long before Pedro developed a keen interest in guitar-making. Recognizing his passion, his father took him to Granada to hone his skills under the guidance of master luthiers from the renowned “Escuela Granadina.” There, Pedro learned and worked with celebrated artisans such as Manuel de la Chica, Eduardo Ferrer, and Antonio Robles. By 1959, he had opened his own workshop.
Thanks to his exceptional work ethic and natural talent, Pedro Maldonado quickly gained recognition for crafting outstanding instruments. His reputation grew rapidly, and soon he was receiving orders from “Casa Damas,” a prestigious flamenco store in Seville. With demand soaring, he found himself working 14-hour days to fulfill orders from renowned musicians, Spanish guitarists, and stores across the globe, including the United States, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and Australia.
This particular Pedro Maldonado 1963 Negra flamenco guitar features a spruce top with rosewood back and sides.
