A fantastic Martin 00-18 1953 acoustic guitar has just arrived, and we were absolutely amazed by its rich and expansive sound during our first tuning and playing session.

In the period shortly after the war, Martin produced exceptional guitars that are highly coveted today. This era was characterized by a focus on craftsmanship rather than commercial interests; the guitars were built with thin bodies and the finest first-growth tonewoods. Every aspect of this instrument is entirely hand-crafted, featuring stunning mahogany for the sides and back, complemented by a lovely spruce top, resulting in a powerful tonal presence. The guitars from this time represent the pinnacle of Martin’s craftsmanship, which is no small feat considering their long history of quality over the past century.

This Martin 00-18 1953 acoustic guitar is a seasoned workhorse with many stories to tell. It has undoubtedly experienced a challenging life, but those struggles have shaped it into the remarkable instrument it is today. Numerous cracks have been expertly repaired, and some areas of the finish have been touched up. One tuning machine has also been replaced. The neck has been reset and it now has new frets too. The action is comfortably low and the guitar plays great.

This Martin 00-18 1953 acoustic guitar is one of the most expressive and mature mahogany instruments we’ve had the pleasure of owning—truly incredible. It delivers a rich, deep tone with a captivating vintage quality. The combination of its construction and aged woods creates a haunting voice that is difficult to describe accurately.

This is one of those guitars that, once you play it, you’ll immediately want to take it home!
