Description
Viuda de Santos Hernandez – Modesto Borreguero Flamenco Guitar – extremly rare guitar handmade by Modesto Borreguero shortly after the death of Santos Hernandez!
After the death of Santos Hernandez, various guitar makers continued to run the store under the name of Santos Hernandez’s widow (Viuda de Santos Hernandez), as is customary in Spain.
Among these luthiers were Marcelo Barbero, Modesto Borreguero, Manuel de la Chica and others.
This fantastic flamenco guitar was built by Modesto Borreguero. He placed his stamps under the top, to the left and right of the sound hole. Modesto Borreguero and Santos Hernandez have a special friendship. They had been working together under Manuel Ramirez since 1905.
After the death of Manuel Ramirez, both opened their own workshops, but always remained in Madrid and kept in contact.
There is no year of manufacture for this guitar, but we estimate it to be from the mid-1940s, as Santos Hernandez died in 1943.
This Modesto Borreguero Flamenco Guitar is a very beautiful one. It has a spruce top and cypress back and sides. The scale length is 660 mm and the nut width 52 mm. It plays amazing with a low Flamenco action of 2.7 mm E and 2.2 mm e and a straight neck.
This Modesto Borreguero Flamenco Guitar sounds amazing, it has all the qualities of a very high quality traditional flamenco guitar, including a big sound that resonates off the top, back and sides.
It has a loose, loud and penetrating sound with big basses and crystal clear trebles. The guitar has beautifully aged and is nicely balanced. A fantastic guitar of the best you can get – absolutely equal to the guitars of Santos Hernandez, Marcelo Barbero and Domingo Esteso.
It is in great condition for its age and shows only one small repaired crack on the back. The guitar comes with a good guitar case.
