Description

Gennaro Fabricatore 1790 Classical Guitar – A Romantic Guitar for the Most Discerning Musicians – Experience Its Enchanting Sound!

We are delighted to present this exquisite romantic guitar crafted by Gennaro Fabricatore, a master luthier whose work continues to captivate musicians to this day. Born as the son and pupil of Giovanni Battista, and nephew to Vincenzo, Gennaro was active in Naples from 1773 to 1832. The Fabricatore family earned a stellar reputation in Naples for their exceptional craftsmanship in creating guitars, lutes, and mandolins, with many of their instruments preserved in prestigious European museums.

Initially, Gennaro began his career constructing violins and cellos, which remain highly esteemed. However, he eventually turned his talents toward the creation of six-stringed guitars. Among his notable patrons was the legendary violinist Nicolò Paganini, who possessed a Fabricatore guitar built in 1820. Renowned guitarist Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829) also owned one made in 1804 and praised its extraordinary potential as both a solo instrument and in duets with the violin or flute.

Gennaro’s background in violin making is evident in the materials he selected. The soundboard is crafted from the finest Alpine Italian spruce, while the back and sides are made from stunning maple, showcasing a single piece of this beautiful wood. The headstock and entire neck are fashioned from rich rosewood, adorned with exquisite inlays of whale bone (baleen). With a scale length of 625 mm and a nut width of 43 mm, this guitar feels comfortable and inviting in the hands of any player.

This Gennaro Fabricatore 1790 Classical Guitar has been fully restored and is in well playable condition, ready to inspire musicians once again. True to the Fabricatore legacy, it is an absolutely stunning guitar. It boasts a clear sound with rich harmonics, striking highs, and lovely bass notes. The fact that such a sonorous and refined instrument was crafted over 200 years ago is nothing short of remarkable.

The guitar produces a natural, “woody” quality of sound that is both stylish and alluring. Its rich, played-in tone is a characteristic that can only be found in an instrument of this vintage. In the hands of a skilled player, it feels incredibly expressive, responding beautifully to even the most subtle changes in touch. The sound is truly magical, resonating from the deepest lows to the highest registers.

This exceptional guitar comes with its original wooden case, which, like the instrument itself, shows signs of restoration work, adding to its character and history.

Discover the enchanting sound and craftsmanship of the Gennaro Fabricatore 1790 Classical Guitar—a timeless masterpiece that continues to inspire musicians across generations!
